OVERVIEW \ rustic-luxury villas STARTING AT $100

Based on the owners' love for nature and adventure, the family-owned land graduated from a cattle farm into something much more sustainable, a chic eco-resort comprised of 10 modern villas, set in the stunning volcanic Furnas basin. Inspired by the local rustic granaries that were purposely raised above the humid ground, the rectangle shaped villas are set on a series of low concrete pillars above a tranquil pond with beautiful views of the lush surroundings. The 103 acres of property includes carefully tended gardens, dense woodland, hiking trails, a saltwater pool and stables. Considered one of the boldest tourist and architectural projects on the Island of Sao Miguel, it is more than just a place to stay, but a feast for the eyes, and an experience that will last a lifetime.

ROOMS

Built from locally grown Japanese wood, the 10 cedar villas consist of 1 double room, one full bathroom, dining room/living room, and porch with panoramic views. Scandinave in design, the minimalist style is simple and functional, with large windows, a contemporary fireplace, and a fully equipped kitchen. With an extra double bed in the lounge, the villa can sleep 4 in total.

Also available is the Chestnut House, a traditional stone cottage which has 2 double bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, living room, dining room, fully equipped kitchen, porch and private garden.

HIGHLIGHTs

Breakfast is delivered at the apartment and includes: coffee/tea, milk, natural fruit juice, Azorean cheeses and meats, homemade jams and honey, yoghurts, seasonal fruit, bread, “bolo lêvedo” (typical sweet bread of Furnas) and homemade cookies. ($15/adult and $8/children per day).

Fancy a picnic? A lunch basket version including wine can be eaten at your villa or taken on your excursion to enjoy in nature!

Designed by the owners' architect brother, the minimalist design is high tech and modern, yet in complete harmony with the surroundings.

Furnas Lake Villas also offers some unique cooking experiences where they use the heat of the volcano to cook your food. There are 3 meals which can be cooked this way, “Cozido”, “Caldeirada”, “Feijoada” (both meat and vegetarian options). You can see how they are prepared and even participate by putting the pot in the ground where it will be cooked by the volcanic heat. 5 hours later, you can enjoy this amazing dish in your villa or dining room.
