La Semilla. The seed. Something that you nurture and love. Something that is within all of us, the power to cultivate the extraordinary. That is exactly what the lovely owners, Alexis and Angie, have done with this special space. Instead of developing the property into a large hotel, they kept it at 9 rooms and left a lush garden area for guests to relax and observe the quietness that surrounds. They encourage the slow approach, to reconnect with the earth, each other and yourself. The rest of the property follows suit and is the perfect mix of a simple, refined design, and laid-back atmosphere. Paying homage to the local culture, they embraced a design reflective of Mexican heritage fused with organic forms; sourcing vintage furniture from Mexican haciendas and handmade mosaic tiles, paired with locally sourced stone and polished concrete. This elegant mix of mis-matched furniture, art, and antiques combined with earthly elements is inspired by the Rough Lux movement, that which embraces the imperfection created by the wear and tear of time. Together, these elements create a quality of timelessness and calmness, of authenticity and warmth.

The timeless palette of whites and creams beautifully showcase the carefully curated rooms, 9 in total, including 2 suites. Rooms are airy and minimal, each uniquely furnished with flea market finds and vintage Mexican furniture, including chandeliers, antiques and artisanal pieces, creating a space that is relaxing, yet elegant and warm. Rooms range in size from the Cuartitos, being the smallest (20m2), to the slightly larger Cuartos (23m2) that features a king-size bed and a small sitting area. Cuartos Terraza(20m2 + 5m2 terrace) features a private outdoor seating area, while the most luxurious of them all, the Suites Terraza includes a spacious indoor sitting area, king-size bed and a private terrace with outdoor bath or shower (30m2 + 8m2 terrace).

An extensive homemade, organic breakfast is served each morning at the Cucina Loft, the open kitchen and cozy lounge area in within the tropical garden. The main dish changes daily, but always includes fresh fruit, pastries, breads, house-made jams and granolas.

In the afternoon, wine and beer are available for free in the hotel's garden. Guests are encouraged to bring their own meals back to the hotel to enjoy the tranquility of the garden.

Craving some sunshine? Hotel La Semilla also has a beautiful rooftop deck with sun-loungers to load up on some Vitamin D without having to brave the beach crowds. With that said, they also provide a beach kit filled with towels, umbrellas and coolers to head over to the long stretch of Caribbean beach just a stone's throw away. Bikes are also available for guests to explore the area as locals do!

Though the form of hospitality offered is casual, it is far from amateurish. Just the opposite, in fact. The owners Alexis Scharer and Angie Rodriguez have extensive global experience as hoteliers, and created this space with specific intention to allow their guests a break from the fast-paced world, taking the slow approach to life and reconnecting with earth, each other and yourself.

Hotel La Semilla recently opened up a sister property, Villa La Semilla, located on the pristine beaches of Soliman Bay near Tulum. Imagine a private villa as special as Hotel La Semilla all to yourselves!
